The Rifle Club runs out of 21st Romsey Scout HQ, Joe Bigwood Close, Nursling, Southampton, SO16 0YL
We typically run for each club session 5 x 6yd Lanes and 3 x 10m Lanes depending on bookings.
All lanes are run using electronic target changers to maximise the available time for the athlete and to reduce those pressures for those who shoot at different speeds.
Open to scouting members and non-scouting members. We are fortunate to have a number of volunteers who also share a passion for the sport and hold various National Small Bore Rifle Association qualifications from YPST Air rifle instructors, Club instructor Airgun, Club Coach and County coach.
Our aim is to encourage more people into the fantastic discipline of target shooting.
We also encourage and assist in the development of new instructors to the sport and assist in their development to other qualifications.
The journey started with 2 leaders Pamela Chalk and Tony Moles who assisted in running occasional taster target shooting sessions for the group and district.
Steve Batchelor joined the team back in 2008 after Pam & Tony had established a positive impact in delivering these taster sessions. Steve who started as an assistant scout leader looked to take this further. Encouraging the team to enter the Scout National Rifle Championships where they have attended each year since.
Steve, Tony and Pam then looked to start a regular club which now runs once a month and has become the 21st Romsey Rifle Club as it is known today.
The club is run under the charity of 21st Romsey Scout Group all proceeds less costs of materials and payment fees are used within the 21st Romsey Scout Group for the improvement of the club facilities. All of the instructors volunteer and as such no-one is paid for their attendance.
The first target sprint to the new format as it is known in the UK.
We started with Springer air rifles back in 2015 with the new format targets. Running from a range indoors to a run outdoors of 400m. The targets were made out of old filing cabinet sides, some scrap wood, hinges and fencing wire, constructed by Stephen Batchelor and Trevor Draper.
Following from a first year successful event the 2nd event was advertised and we then hosted in 2016 the first UK based international competition with competitors from England, Wales, Netherlands and South Africa. The targets had been upgraded from the previous year but still all made in house. The third year we were sponsored by Sureshot and proper knockdown targets were purchased. 2017 was another international with a return of the teams/athelete from England, Wales, Netherlands and South Africa. British Shooting had now picked up on the discpiline and the national championships were formed.
